Its hard to go zipping about the Grove these days, for any of the usual reasons, general traffic on Main Highway, the cross in front of Cocowalk, and the endless construction that has been plaguing South Bayshore Drive. But that’s only part of the picture, or at least for some, ourselves included, crushing over development has finally come to Coconut Grove and there is little turning back… maybe twisting and turning back? Can you sense the effort here to get some sort of a lead in to the images of The Grove At Grand Bay as they’ve been rising above the our heads? These are the latest images of the project, the twin towers as they weave and test their way up. On the one hand, purely from an architectural standpoint, we’ve been smitten in some sense by their design, construction and engineering. The concrete supporting structures are equally twisted through the floor plates, not simply just driven down perpendicular to the ground and to the bedrock below. We’ll give credit where credit is due, Bjarke Ingels did an amazing job, the two buildings are a marvel of architecture and design. From a development perspective, awful, we like Coconut Grove just the way it is and would like it to stay that way. We like the old hippie, laid-back feel. We are not necessarily interested in the bigger, faster taller. Sit around Berries or Calamari and strike up a conversation ask them what their thoughts are on the two towers and you’ll probably hear them referred to as, The Twisted Sisters.
We’ll be keeping an eye on things and bring you more photos as the buildings continue their climb upwards.
