We struggled for a few minutes as to what the headline for this might be, and after a bit of back and forth chose to simply keep the lead from the original at Vanity Fair, honestly it summed up the article well enough, we couldn’t improve. For a glimpse into Donald Trump and more specifically his personality, not that we haven’t already seen enough if it since day one on the campaign trail, it’s entertaining to read the slew of articles coming down the pipeline from interviews in the past. Few and far between are those reporters who have been invited to do stories on the real Donald Trump and have had the temerity to publish the encounter in all of it’s glory. Here’s to Mark Bowden for writing up his run in and weekend with Trump at Mar A Lago.
Just to get it straight, Bowden’s commentary is current, although based upon a long weekend he spent with Trump in Palm Beach back in November 1996 when he was writing for Playboy Magazine. The entire article is worth the fun read, but a choice quote from the opener sums up the authors opinions on Trump in words that we could never replicate: “Trump struck me as adolescent, hilariously ostentatious, arbitrary, unkind, profane, dishonest, loudly opinionated, and consistently wrong. He remains the most vain man I have ever met. And he was trying to make a good impression.”
Doesn’t seem that all that much has really changed.
