We recently came across the latest listing in The French Country Village of Coral Gables at 1044 Cotorro Avenue. The themed villages of Coral Gables are some of our favorite little spots in the city, and this particular village is right on Hardie Avenue, a beautiful and well located street. The current listing shows that the home has more or less been gut renovated and from having passed by it almost every day and seeing the construction, its taken a long time. The photos show a modern yet well executed job that remains somewhat faithful to at least preserving the feel of the home, although a little too whitewashed, we’ve seen some of the original interiors, and this is by no means original at all.
The home has 3 beds and 3 baths and is almost 3,500 square feet, but here’s the kicker, the seller wants $2.5 million for the home? Forget it. We love the French Village, but we don’t love it $700 per square feet love it, especially if the flipper, which is what this is, gutted the interior and modernized it. Part of the charm and what makes these homes so unique and fun is having the original interiors at least in the public rooms, we do understand that some of the bathrooms were almost certainly unusable. Even if you’re going to renovate one of the old historic homes try and do it in such a way as to keep replicate the original style. Sadly this is the same fate that befell an original Walter DeGarmo home on Matheson Avenue in Entrada Estates a year ago.
