Yep, Miami actually has a LOT of museums, there is more to this town than simple sun and sand and over-priced food. May is Miami Museum month which is co-sponsored / promoted by Miami Visitors and Convention. The whole idea is a buy one and get admission to another free.
Our personal favorite is the Bass Museum, it’s small personal and easy to get through in an afternoon or just a quick stop by so you don’t have to take off too much time from sunning yourself and of course its super convenient, on South Beach, but up in the 20’s off of Collins so usually not too bad traffic-wise if you’re driving and easy of course if you’re a tourist and walking.
While we collection itself is so-so, the Perez Art Museum is a fantastic building, architecturally speaking, thus making it worthwhile for visiting just to check out Herzog and de Meuron’s project on the Biscayne Bay.
The Sciences Museum, may or may not yet be open, construction has been going gangbusters. The giant sphere perched atop the front is rather striking.
These are just with quick and dirty three that we like, if you are looking for a full list of museums in and around Miami, we are in the process of putting that all together. Til then we’re always interested in hearing how you spend your days at the beach, favorite places, and all that.
