I don’t even know where to begin here, ran across Charles Neal, while looking at the latest crop of designers who were trying to make their push in to the South Florida market – Miami. And for some reason he came up, guess he has some good personal branding help or something like that. Anyway. Design is a very personal decision and everyone has different tastes, but when we started wandering around his website looking at some of his projects and his biography, found it to be a complete mishmash of ideas that collectively didn’t seem to make a whole heck of a lot of sense. There are a LOT of keywords of questionable style jammed in to his style:
“Baroque modern décor with a luxurious sense of style”
Less is More
Be Bold, Be Brave
Function forms Comfort
No seriously, these are all direct quotes from his website and they seem to completely contradict each other and that last one is a snarky play on Mies Van Der Rohe… Mies wanted absolutely nothing to do with baroque and was the exact polar opposite. I know that these days in business and marketing the key phrase is “Think Out Of The Box” and “Be Original”, but Chuck seems to be lacking an thought out design philosophy and instead is just regurgitating some hit phrases.
