It’s a sad state of affairs, that we here down in South Florida are all very well aware of the environmental problems caused by global warming and climate change, but in point of fact, by all accounts, it’s business as usual. Massive construction projects, over crowding urban centers, higher, bigger, faster, better? We know that the water is rising, we see it evidence of it all the time, mostly in the form of flooding. While there is usually too much water, we also have increasing problems with too little water, or more specifically potable water. The water table for most of South Florida is very, very low, more development, the more we strain the capacity for fresh clean water, so if we’re building, and that is indeed the lifeblood of our neck of the woods, we really should be thinking about water conservation.
So, without further ado we launch our section on water, which will among other things will showcase wonderful ideas (our opinion) on how have lovely outdoor spaces and use less water – what in California is being termed Drought Tolerant Landscaping.
