Many years ago I found myself down in Uruguay during the Punta Del Este High Season and had the pleasure of dining at the original Parador La Huella in Jose Ignacio, so as the rumors have spread in Miami that Martín Pittaluga would be opening a branch in the Brickell area, needless to say somewhat excited. The food in Uruguay is pretty simple, it’s grilled, its fresh its delicious, it’s kind of hard to screw up.
First of all, the restaurant is in the East Hotel on 8th street, so not the easiest to get to and then above and beyond on, we think it was the forth floor, kind of confusing. It’s hotel restaurant, so it’s nice, and not in the least bit offensive, at the same time its also missing the charm that made the original perched out on the dunes so fun. The usual Miami type crowd was there, not to hard to get a spot at the bar where we ate. I had the Entrana and the Provoleta, both of which were delicious. The service was good, bartenders attentive. The food is a little expensive, $24 for a skirt steak is getting up there.
All in all, not a bad experience, not some thing that blew me away and as a local would have any reason to return to, but fair enough. If you want a little bit more of the showmanship then you can always try heading over to the Faena for Mallmann’s restaurant.
