The condos may have long ago sold out but the fun and chaos of the Mid-Beach neighborhood that has quickly been dubbed the Faena District, still has a couple tricks up it’s sleeve, not least of which is the final grand opening of the long awaited Rem Koolhaas OMA designed cultural arts center called the Faena Forum. The opening promises, like all things Faena to be a big deal, more or less a huge carnival.
Curious, as we all are as to what exactly the building is. The Miami Herald wrote one heck, of what we can assume, is a fully accurate suggestion as to what the “forum” might actually be and or do. Yes, it is named after the Roman forum, or so Alan Faena happily alludes to. It’s also referenced as an “Assembly hall” and an alchemical collaborative space for free art and expression. Yeah seriously, we’re kind of not making that up. It’s sort of whatever he wants it to be. It’s 43,000 square feet of empty space, a cylinder married to a cube. A Museum. An event space. The blanks can always be filled in later. The architect Terence Riley compared it to a German style Kunsthalle.
Whatever it may be and whatever you might want to call it yourself, you can either go and see it, visit the forum, or if you’re not quite so sure just yet what your thoughts are on the whole project and concept you can learn more about Faena’s artistic endeavors at Faena Art.
