I’m pretty much a total sucker for every restaurant Jean Georges has ever done, while some would almost certainly label me a snotty, too trendy foodie with expensive tastes, guilty as charged, the actual explanation for my reverence has more to do with his style of cooking. Generally speaking, in my personal palate I prefer lighter food without all of the rich sauces and unnecessary complications of too many ingredients, Vongerichten consistently gets this right no matter what he might be cooking or where his inspiration is coming from.
Having to go up to Brooks Brothers at Bal Harbour not too long ago I took the excuse to stop by J & G Grill at the St Regis for an early dinner. I stuck with the basics, and didn’t get too crazy, enjoyed the Truffle pizza, and the Tuna Tartare, the pizza was relatively light although filling and the tuna perfectly refreshing and flavorful, love the ginger soy dressing.
I sat at the bar, which is beautiful, although very serious looking, and sadly it faces inside without much of a view outside the double height windows overlooking the palms and water beyond.
Depending when you go, this is definitely a tack on to whatever destination you happen to be trying to get to, probably not a destination restaurant in and of itself since you would probably be coming north from Miami area or south from Broward.
