One of the most glaringly misplaced homes of recent memory sprouted up on Sunset maybe a year or so ago, hard to tell exactly since the property was protected by fencing and there was some greenery left over to shield what would later be revealed as an uninspired modern Star Trek style home. Before we go any further it is probably important to remind everyone that architecture and the home in which they chose to live is a personal statement, everyone has their own taste and style and is welcome to it.
However, here’s what’s so crazy, as the home was finishing construction a “For Sale” sign had popped appeared on the swale. So this was a spec home. Someone made a conscience decision that this was a fantastic design that would be super appealing. Although they might just have easily have taken the approach that they didn’t need to appeal to everyone, they just needed to appeal to that one special person who would love the house. Of course in real estate development like any investment it’s usually best to play the odds and appeal to the most potential buyers.
The house in our opinion is just a jumble of disturbingly angled slabs and walls with no particular rhyme or reason. A possibly Picasso architectural effort at deconstruction which is so much more well executed by architects like Daniel Libeskind. If the Star Trek Enterprise was carrying a galactic shipment of bleach and crashed into a baby pyramid this would probably be the outcome.
From an old listing the house is just under 10,000 square feet, has 7 bedrooms and 8.5 baths. If you have a burning desire to do a driveby if you’re heading west towards South Miami on Sunset it is just before Ponce, opposite from the Coral Gables side – thus how they could get a building permit for such a modern home.
