Building on irregular lots is a tricky proposition that in any municipality anywhere comes with many design challenges. Throw that in to the mix of a typical Miami spec home builder mentality of more is always better and every square foot of allowable space must be taken advantage of, it’s bound to not end well. Case in point, a very uncomfortable angular modern home in Coconut Grove. The photos don’t really show how awkward and uncomfortable the spaces are, but all you have to do is look at the google map overview and you can see the footprint of the house on the lot. Anyone with a reasonable eye and sense of special relations can probably figure out that while many of the room may “look” like a box, its long and thin and the hallways are all out of sync. A walk through feel like you’ve entered a whitewashed Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.
Lesson that we’re trying to illustrate, if you see a home anywhere in Miami that’s on an oddly shaped angular lot, it’s probably not worth your time to go and see.
