Always known for it’s slightly offbeat sense of humor, right around the corner is the annual Great Grove Bed Race in Coconut Grove. A fun and entertaining way to spend the afternoon, whether you’re a participant or just a casual observer. Teams create jalopnik racing beds with wheels and compete against each other hurling themselves down and across Bayshore Drive. There’s drinks and raffles and food and music. The Grand Marshall helps to kick off and judge the race, in the past such local luminaries as Flo Rida, Tony Kanaan, Vanilla Ice and Helio Castroneves. This time of year of course the weather is almost always perfect.
Proceeds from the event go to charity, so you can feel good about all the mayhem and the 16 ounce red cup of beer in your hand.
Festivities officially open at 11am and final awards at 5pm.
